Police in the southwest region of Suðurnes are looking for the owner of the rodent shown above. Inexplicably, the exact species of rodent is a contentious matter.

“This beautiful hamster was found on a walk at Sunnubraut in Keflavík earlier this evening and its owner is being sought,” police wrote in their status. “The one who found him has been working hard to turn it vegan by feeding it lettuce. If you know the owner, we can connect you to the finder.”

Commenters on the post seem to have ignored the contention that the hamster—and animal that subsists almost entirely on vegetables and grains—was being “turned” vegan. Instead, the species of the animal has been called into question. Specifically, responders seem to be in agreement that this rodent is in fact a dwarf hamster; not a regular hamster.

Whatever the species, if this animal looks familiar to you, and you know someone who recently lost their hamster, dwarf or otherwise, you can message the police through their Facebook page. Hopefully justice will be served.
